The PENBROOK LIONS CLUB is a local organization made up of your neighbors - men and women who care about our community.
The PENBROOK LIONS CLUB was founded in January 1946, with 13 members present and was Chartered in March 1946 by Lions Club International.
At the time of its Charter and throughout the years, many business owners and borough officials took pride in belonging to the PENBROOK LIONS CLUB and were proud to VOLUNTEER and SERVE our community.
In the Spring of 2011, the PENBROOK LIONS CLUB will be celebrating 65 years of continued SERVICE to our community and the world.
Over the years, the PENBROOK LIONS CLUB has provided and/or supported many youth, health and safety projects.
Today, the PENBROOK LIONS CLUB's 50+ members work diligently to give back to our community. We start each New Year with our annual FREE traditional pork and sauerkraut dinner to our borough residents. We host an annual Easter Egg Hunt for the young children, present one of the area's largest Halloween Parades and award scholarships to graduating Penbrook seniors. We recently started recognizing elementary and middle school students as "Student of the Month." We also offer assistance to those in need of visual care, we offer disaster relief, and we contribute to the aid of the homeless.
In just the past 2 years, we have started our LIONS READING DEN - a book exchange program for all ages. Not only do we have books, but we now have children's games, crafts and videos. The "Den" is located in Grace Church at 28th & Walnut Streets and meets the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays at 10:00 AM-Noon.
We've also sponsored the PENBROOK LEO CLUB. With teens ranging in age from 12 through 17, we are the only local community-based Leo Club in our District. We have 20+ teens serving our community and there's always room to grow. Our Leos meet at the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at the Penbrook Community Building at 6:00 PM.
Our programs are continually changing to meet new needs and greater demands, but our mission has never wavered: "We Serve."
Lions around the world work to fight preventable blindness. One of our major goals to find a cure for diabetes - the #1 cause of preventable blindness. Until then we will continue raise funds to educate and bring awareness to the public about diabetes as we continue to support diabetes research.
